Welcome to Cyprus Society of Dermatology and Venereology.
Cyprus is located in the Eastern Mediterranean, guarding the last boundaries of Europe, in the geographical and cultural sense.

Cyprus has a population of one million inhabitants, Eight hundred and fifty thousand are Greek Cypriots ant one hundred and fifty thousand are Turkish Cypriots. There are seventy six Greek Cypriot Dermatologists and twelve Turkish Cypriots. All Dermatologists were trained in Europe since there is no Medical School in the Island.

In 1974 Turkey invaded Cyprus, an EU and UN independent country. The result was that Greeks were violently displaced from the North part of the Island and pushed to the South. Turkish Cypriots and settlers from Turkey are now the main inhabitants of North Cyprus. Christian Orthodox Churches and Cemeteries were destroyed and names of villages were changed. An illegal regime was established, supported and recognized only by the Turkish military that is in full control of the North. The Turkish Dermatologists have very little contact with their colleagues in the South.

The majority of the Dermatologists in Cyprus are active members of EADV represented in the board. CSDV also remains in close contact with Athens University Dermatology Hospital. Cypriot Dermatologists participate in the scientific activity of the Athens University Clinic. A Cypro- Hellenic Dermatological Conference is organized in Cyprus every 3 years during which Greek and Cypriot Dermatologists present their scientific work.

Cyprus is a traditionally ideal location for the organization of International Conferences. It has an ideal climate, beautiful beaches, and many archaeological sites and due its location Cyprus very often becomes the connection of East and West, North and South. The population is very hospitable and English is spoken everywhere.

Finishing Dear Colleagues, consider this as an open invitation to all of you to come and visit Cyprus. Your fellow Dermatologists in the island will be more than glad to see you around and help you in any way.

The President,

George Ketonis
